Shahid Khaqan Abbasi made Interim PM of Pakistan

In  a recent announcement by Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz,  Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is announced as  Interim PM of Pakistan, he will hold this position for 45 days.

Deposed prime minster Nawaz Sharif decide to choose next prime minister, a day after supreme court removed him from post of prime minister finding that he and his family has involvement in Panama Papers case.

Who is Shahid Khaqan Abbasi?

Mr. Abbasi was the Petroleum Minister in Nawaz Sharif Cabinet. Earlier he was chairman of Pakistan International Airlines from 1997 - 1999. When General Musharraf overthrew Mr. Sharif's government, he was arrested and remained in jail for 2 years. In Year 2001 he was acquitted by the court.

He is also the CEO of the Air Blue Airline. He has Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from George Washington University in Washington DC


Election Process

Mr. Abbasi will need to get vote of confidence from the National Assembly before he will sworn in. The PML - N also decided to rally behind Mr. Nawaz's younger brother, Shahbaz Sharif as his eventual successor.

Shahbaz Sharif is will be sworn in after 45 days of Mr. Abbasi  being Interim PM, thenhe will fight the election from National Assemble seat NA - 120. Election date is to be decided by the election commission next week.

It is worth noting that NA - 120 is constituency in Lahore in stronghold of Mr. Sharif, the Capital of Punjab Province. Mr. Sharif was elected from the seat in 2013 elections
